The European Society for Medical Oncology guidance on cancer pain management is described. Causes of pain form cancer management modalities, treatment of cancer-related pain, the role of pain management specialists in these patients' care, and the place of opioid pharmacotherapy and risks of opioid adverse events are discussed.
